Short biography

Dr. Sebastian Heidebrecht is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for European Integration Research, housed in the University of Vienna’s Department of Political Science. Dr. Heidebrecht’s research looks at how actors, processes, and institutions shape the digital transformation of European economies and societies, with a particular focus on European Union policies. Before his current position, Dr. Heidebrecht was a Research Associate at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Dr. Heidebrecht has also taught at the Vienna School of International Studies, the Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf, and ESSCA Angers. Dr. Heidebrecht edited special issues on the EU’s digital sovereignty and the political role of the ECB. His work is published in leading political science journals such as the Journal of Common Market Studies and the Journal of European Public Policy. Dr. Heidebrecht holds a Ph.D from the University of Duisburg-Essen and studied at the University of Jena and Sciences Po Paris. He was also a guest researcher at the Max-Planck Sciences Po Centre on Inequality in Market Societies and at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs. In addition to his academic career, Dr. Heidebrecht worked for a financial services provider in Amsterdam and he was a Head of Office at the European Parliament.
