Short biography

Dr. Sebastian Heidebrecht is a Postdoctoral Researcher (Universitätsassistent) at the Centre for European Integration Research (EIF) of the University of Vienna. As part of a research group established by Gerda Falkner, Sebastian is working on the European Union’s political strategy for the digital age. In particular, his work focuses on the establishment of the Digital Single Market and adjacent policy areas like the regulation of digital services, employment conditions, competition, consumer protection and taxes. Prior to his current position, Sebastian was a Research Associate at the University of Duisburg-Essen and a Lecturer at both Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf and ESSCA Angers. Together with Michael Kaeding, Sebastian was the editor of a special issue of Credit and Capital Markets – Kredit und Kapital on the political role of the ECB, and his academic work appeared inter alia in the German Journal of Political Science (Zeitschrift für Politikwissenschaft), the Journal of Contemporary European Research and the Journal of Common Market Studies. Sebastian studied Political Science and Economic Sociology at Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena and Sciences Po Paris, subsequently he did his PhD in Political Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen. During that time, he was also a visiting Research Fellow at the Max-Planck Sciences Po Center on Coping with Instability in Market Societies in Paris (MaxPo). In addition to his academic employments, Sebastian worked for a financial services provider in Amsterdam and he was a Head of Office at the European Parliament.
