Short biography

Dr. Sebastian Heidebrecht is a Postdoctoral Researcher (Universitätsassistent) at the Centre for European Integration Research (EIF), Department of Political Science, University of Vienna. Sebastian’s research looks at how actors, processes, and institutions shape the digital transformation of European economies and societies, with a particular focus on European Union policies. Before his current position, Sebastian was a Research Associate at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Sebastian taught at the Vienna School of International Studies, the Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf, and ESSCA Angers. Sebastian edited special issues on the EU’s digital sovereignty and the political role of the ECB. His work is published in leading political science journals such as the Journal of Common Market Studies and the Journal of European Public Policy. Sebastian holds a PhD from the University of Duisburg-Essen and studied at the University of Jena and Sciences Po Paris. In addition to his academic employments, Sebastian worked for a financial services provider in Amsterdam and he was a Head of Office at the European Parliament.
